And a little of the history of nail:From time immemorial nails have been used by humanity. Wood primordially was the raw material for their production. People hadn't assimilated rare and expensive at that time metal. Man did not have the technology and tools for metal working. But here the technology of treatment of wood was already known to the humanity , instruments accessible for work with wood. The name “nails” was obtained because of the branch of their were application. Thus, pegs, used in river shipbuilding, were called barging; nails, used in sea shipbuilding - ship nails; there were even shoe pegs! Depending on the designation of nails, they are made from different species of trees. Thus, ship nails, used in sea shipbuilding, where it is required the special reliability of fastening, were made from the most durable species of trees: pine tree, oak, acacia and maple. Nails were planed and then processed by resin for an increase in the period of service. Nevertheless such nails were short-lived: wooden fastenings dried and were deformed. In the epoch of universal mastery of metal, hammered and cast nails became popular and metallic nails were made in smithies and workshops by hand to the end of 19 century. The unproductive technology of the production of nails by forging slowly came to nothing with the advent of metallic wires. The metallic wire of different diameters rapidly made it possible to enlarge the assortment of nails according to the sizes, form, designation. The appearance of wire was the basic argument for creating machine tools for making nails automatically, which changed the technology of producing nails, after increasing productivity and nature of labour of workers. In nail making automata a nail is formed with the method of cold forging. Perhaps, it is remarkable that the name “nails”, were as before, given because of the branch of their application. Universal nails, used for the most different kinds of works, are called construction nails, joiner nails, used for preparing the furniture, have very small caps to be unnoticeable. Tar paper nails are used during the coating the roof with the soft material , and for fastening of tile and slate roofing nails adapt, their large caps hold well light-gauge material and protect it from breaks in the place of fastening. Screw nails and wire brush nails obtained wide application for fastening of pans at the sea and transport freight traffic. The rich assortment of fasteners makes possible for user to select those nails which are necessary for his purposes. So that nails - this is not simple the piece of wire, but the product with its history and evolution. | ||||
